Learning Methodology
Richard started his career at one of the UK’s big 4 banks, where his 20 year experience covered all sectors, especially retail banking, in front-line, advisory, strategic and senior line management roles. His work often involved guiding the deepening role of technology in banking – he could perhaps claim to have been working in fintech for 30 years!
In the early 2000s, Richard was responsible for internet and telephone banking propositions at RBS/NatWest and it was from here that he saw the opportunity for mobile financial servicesand moved to a tech start-up, Monitise. This business, one of the original fintechs, grew to a peak $2bn valuation with deployments in Europe, US and Asia and throughout this period Richard played a central role in market insight, strategic and proposition development. He advised numerous businesses around the globe and led the company’s external relations with analysts as well as conference presentations and media engagement. With his combination of large and small company experience, Richard is now advising a range of businesses on their digital and fintech strategies, as well as leading training programs on the digitisation of financial services in numerous global markets. He also has a first degree in Mathematics from Oxford University and a Masters in Management Science from Imperial College, London.
